What is it?

EYC is a two-day event; including a conference and a series of intense workshops where you will put into practise some of the knowledge and ideas being discussed in the conference section.

The first day is the main conference - a series of independent practitioners (not sales people) offering their knowledge and experience plus relevant case studies in the use of ICT.

The second day offers a choice of six half-day, hands-on workshops, to develop your personal knowledge and skills. each workshop is repeated morning and afternoon you can attend any two that best suit you.

E-engage Your Community began as an initiative of the Wellington ICT, a not-for-profit Trust working to improve access to information and communications technology for all communities in Wellington. Affiliated trusts in Hamilton, Rotorua and now Christchurch have taken up the idea, constantly improving it by incorporating suggestions from previous attendees to focus better on meeting the IT and communications needs of community and grass-roots organisations.

Who's it for

This is a conference for voluntary and non-profit organisations in the community sector who realise that they are not getting the best return on their investment in Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

EYC will show you how to use the web more effectively, how to manage your resources so that online communications are current, timely and effective, how to use social media to help fundraise or contact and organise your younger supporters whose main online activities are focused on these new tools.

If you can use email and click a link on a website, then you've got all the technical knowledge you'll need to get value from the conference. If you're at a more advanced level, not only will you find something new to add to your capabilities, there'll be opportunities to share knowledge and experiences with those in similar situations.

What you'll learn

Conference and workshop topics cover using ICT in organisational governance, financial management, internal and external communications, operational management and both information and technology security.

EYC will equip you with:

  • a greater knowledge and overview of how the web can directly benefit community organisations like yours
  • an understanding of some of the latest trends and how they'll affect you
  • a practical introduction to a number of, often free, tools and applications that can have an immediate effect in increasing productivity and lowering costs within your organisation.
  • opportunities for networking, knowledge-sharing and meeting others from similar organisations and in similar situations.
